Festival Outreach and Educational Programme
The Festival is joining for 2018 with its Education Partner, King Edward VI School, Stratford Upon Avon, to create an exciting, varied and inclusive community and education programme.
Festival Outreach and Education Programme
The Festival’s primary theme for 2018 is Beethoven and the Gothic, through which the Festival aims to explore the ways in which difference and disability were idealised by the Gothic movement during the 19th century – starting with the formulation of Beethoven’s deafness as “exceptionalism”. Through Concerts, Talks, Debates and Workshops, the Festival will illustrate and explore the many ways in which physical and psychological difference were employed by writers, composers and dramatists as a means of challenging the non-disabled conception of disability. By exploring difference as ‘otherness’, the Festival is placing outreach and education at the very heart of its programme.

About the Outreach and Education Programme
The provision of opportunities for audiences of all ages and abilities to experience first-rate music and challenging ideas is integral to the ambitions of the Stratford International Festival of Words and Music.
Children are welcome at every event – particularly, of course, the Children’s Concert on Wednesday 26 September and free tickets will be provided for any child wishing to attend any open rehearsal, as advertised on the website.
If you, your children or your school is interested in becoming involved with the 2018 Festival, or with future Festivals, do not hesitate to email the Festival Administrator: admin@stratfordwordsandmusic.org
