About

Stratford International Festival of Words and Music

Words and music are mediums of communication for the representation of thought, feeling and experience. At their simplest, and their most complex, they are languages of imagination and invention. Through a meticulously crafted and strikingly original programme of themed concerts, talks and masterclasses, the Stratford International Festival of Words and Music is a unique celebration of ideas, and the remarkable effect that words and music can have on the world and the people around us. Acknowledgments

Edwin H. Land was onto something when he observed that “politeness is the poison of collaboration.” Remarkably, however, our new Festival – and its sparkling website – has come at no cost to the friendships on which it was built. The Artistic Director (AD) and the Trustees would like first and foremost thank the Festival CEO, David Mills, who has kept everything afloat this year and also during the last year of the Festival’s previous iteration. David and the AD thereafter join in thanking (and acknowledging the huge contributions made by) the stupidly talented people at Barques, the brilliant web and design company without whom there would be no new Festival:

Jilly Cosgrove, Managing Director
Katie French, Digital Project Manager
Lee Haynes, Creative Director
Axl Crawford, Website Developer
Imogen Dunworth-Warby,  Social Media Manager
James Roberts, Search Engine Optimisation
Emma Cosgrove, Design and Marketing PA

In addition, the Festival is indebted to Tamsin Waley-Cohen and the Albion String Quartet for their support, encouragement and assistance, and also its photographer, Sam McAuliffe, and our resident artist, Lizet Dingemans, who has kindly allowed us to use her wonderful painting of Klein’s life mask of Beethoven (taken when the composer was 42, in 1812).

Finally, the Festival owes much to its Board (and the Napoleonic industry of its Chair, Debbie Jagla), John Lill CBE, the Festival’s President Emeritus, and finally the Marquess of Hertford, who has generously adopted the mantle of Patron.

It goes without saying that there are others entitled to gratitude and acknowledgement. Anyone feeling slighted by their omission from this page (for their own part, or on behalf of another) should write to admin@stratfordwordsandmusic.org.
